A List Apart

“For people who make websites”
A List Apart Magazine (ISSN: 1534-0295) explores the design, development, and meaning of web content, with a special focus on web standards and best practices.

Steal our code? Copy our content?
ALA’s content is protected by copyright shared jointly by the magazine and its writers, but our source code is freely available to all. We also welcome translation. See Permissions & Copyright for details.

Maybe you can be one of us…...the few, the proud, the ALA contributing authors. A List Apart is written by the community it serves: designers, developers, architects, producers, project managers, and assorted specialists. Publishing in ALA confers prestige and has helped some of our authors gain book deals or find favor with the editors of print magazines. Interested in writing for us? See the Contribute page for guidelines.

Can we talk?
We get more mail in a day than we could read in a week. If you’re itching to express yourself about articles on our site, you can do that by using the comments pages associated with each article. You’ll find comment links at the top and bottom of each article page. (Note that comments close after an article has been up for a while.)

If you’re interested in contributing to ALA, see the previous section, “Maybe you can be one of us.”

If neither option satisfies you, have your way with our Contact page, but please understand that, because of the high volume of mail we receive, you may not hear back from us.

We regret that we cannot give design, code, or other web-related advice.

ALA history
One day, no doubt, the saga of A List Apart will take its place alongside the Nordic Myths, the Ring Cycle, and other treasured legends and narratives. The story so far may be read for your pleasure.
